Malaysian FM talks to British, Norwegian and Canadian colleagues at 57th AMM/PMC

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) – Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan met British Foreign Secretary David Lammy during the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Post-Ministerial Conference (57th AMM/PMC) on Friday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also known as Wisma Putra, said on Facebook that Mohamad Lammy discussed several topics of mutual interest, including reviving and deepening bilateral cooperation in technology and energy, digital transition, and cooperation in education and healthcare.

“At the international and regional levels, both sides agreed to work towards a fair and just solution to the Palestinian and Myanmar issues, as well as to the Russia-Ukraine conflict,” the report said.

In a separate post on Facebook, Wisma Putra reported that Mohamad met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide during the 57th AMM/PMC.

“Both countries have committed to expeditiously concluding the ongoing Malaysia-European Free Trade Association (MEEPA) Economic Partnership Agreement.

“They also explored investment opportunities for the Norwegian Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG) and carbon capture and storage (CCS) in Malaysia, and to further strengthen cooperation in renewable energy, green technology and energy transition,” the report said.

Wisma Putra stated that Malaysia and Norway are committed to working together to achieve fair and just solutions to the issues surrounding Palestine and Myanmar, and to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier, Mohamad also met his counterpart Melanie Joly from Canada.

“Both leaders discussed promoting high-level visits between the two countries, bilateral trade and investment – ​​including negotiations on the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement – ​​and visa arrangements,” the report said.

The two foreign ministers also discussed regional and international issues, including the conflict in Palestine.
