Queens of the Stone Age cancel seven festival performances due to illness

Queens of the Stone Age were forced to cancel their remaining European tour earlier this month after frontman Josh Homme underwent emergency surgery. Now the rockers have canceled seven festival appearances.

On Friday, the group announced they had to cancel a series of European festivals, including Way Out West in Sweden, Norway’s Oya Festival, Syd For Solen in Denmark, Cabaret Vert in France, Lowlands in the Netherlands, Pukkelpop in Belgium and Vilar de Mouros in Portugal. The European festival series was scheduled to take place throughout August.

“Due to ongoing medical care, it is per doctor’s advice that Josh Homme remain in their care in the United States,” the band said in a statement. “The Homme family and QOTSA are so grateful for the outpouring of well wishes and kind understanding during this time.”

QOTSA advises ticket buyers to check each festival’s website for more information.

This is in response to the cancellations of France’s Festival Jardin Sonore, Slovakia’s Pohoda Festival, Colours of Ostrava in the Czech Republic, Electric Castle Festival in Romania and Athens Rocks in Greece, as well as one-off performances at Zitadelle Spandau in Berlin, METAstradt in Austria, SRC Salata in Croatia and Athens Rocks in Greece.

The band then noted, “Queens are sorry we can’t play for you” and “we apologize for any inconvenience and share your frustration and disappointment.”

“Everything has been done to continue and play for you, but continuing is no longer an option,” they continued.

Earlier, QOTSA had to cancel their performance at the AMA Festival in Italy due to illness.

It is not yet known whether QOTSA will also perform at the Catacombs of Paris. During a press conference at Hellfest 2024, frontman Josh Homme revealed the news, indicating that the band’s dreams are finally coming true.

“In a week or so, we’re going to play the Catacombs of Paris, and we’re the first band to do that,” Homme said. “And I’ve been working on it for 18 years, to get myself into this exalted place in Paris.”

Although a QOTSA spokesperson confirmed the concert, no further details were available.
