Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark are back at the Olympics, where their royal romance first blossomed! The couple made a grand return to the limelight in Paris on July 25, as the city buzzed with excitement for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

They began their visit with a ceremonial opening at the Danish Pavilion on the iconic Champs-Élysées.

We then attended a magnificent gala dinner hosted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the French Presidency at the Louvre.

The next day they visited the Olympic Village together, where they met Danish athletes and had lunch with a group of participants.

During the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, the then unknown Mary Donaldson met Frederik, who introduced himself simply as “Fred”, in the bar of the Slip Inn.

Mary later recounted the charming encounter: “When we first met, we shook hands. I had no idea he was the Prince of Denmark.

It wasn’t until half an hour later that someone asked me, “Do you know who these people are?”

This humble introduction in a crowded bar laid the foundation for their lasting romance, making their connection to the Olympics even more special.
