Premier League club Aston Villa announced the arrival of Amadou Onana from Everton on Monday.
The club released an official statement to announce the arrival of the 22-year-old midfielder, which read: “Aston Villa are delighted to announce the arrival of Amadou Onana from Everton. Welcome, Amadou.”
Onana is known for his ability to break through the opponent’s play and win the ball back for his team.
After spells at Hamburger SV and LOSC Lille, Onana joined Everton in the summer of 2022. He has made over 70 appearances for the Toffees, scoring three goals last season. He has earned 17 caps for Belgium, recently playing for them at Euro 2024.
“It feels great. I’m happy to finally be here and I can’t wait to get started. It was a bit of everything. There’s a healthy atmosphere here to grow as a player and as a man,” Onana said after joining the club, as quoted from the club’s official website.
“The team played very attractive football last season with a lot of goals and now they are playing in the Champions League. I am playing in the Champions League again and it is very exciting. We also have a manager who is one of the best in the business and I think he can take my game to the next level,” he added.
Youri Tielemans was also part of the Belgian squad at Euro 2024. He revealed that Tielemans played a big role in his decision to move from Everton to Aston Villa.
“Youri played a big role in my being here because he told me a lot of good things about the club. He is someone I am used to playing with in the national team, so I am looking forward to training with him every day. He is someone who has the experience to help and guide me throughout the process,” he said.
