SIGN PROCEDURE

Based on Article 14 of the UEFA Champions League Regulations (UCL Regulations), the following draw procedure was adopted by the Club Competition Committee.

Match system

The qualifying phase and the play-offs follow the knockout system, with each team playing each other twice, one home and one away.

Sign system and conditions

A draw between an equal number of seeded and unseeded clubs will determine the tie for the qualifying phase and play-offs. Clubs will be placed for these ties in accordance with the club coefficient rankings established at the start of the season and with the principles established by the Club Competitions Committee. If for any reason one of the participants in the relevant round is not known at the time of the tie, the coefficient of the club with the higher coefficient of the two clubs involved in an undecided tie will be used for the purposes of the tie.

The UEFA Executive Board may form groups for the purpose of the draw, in accordance with the principles established by the Club Competition Committee.

Lots are drawn to determine the tie in each match and to determine which team will play the first leg at home.

In accordance with the relevant decisions of the UEFA Executive Committee, teams from the following associations may not be drawn against each other:

Armenia – Azerbaijan
Gibraltar – Spain
Kosovo – Bosnia and Herzegovina
Kosovo – Serbia
Kosovo – Russia*
Ukraine – Russia*
Ukraine – Belarus

* All teams from Russia are suspended until further notice by decision of the Executive Committee of February 28, 2022, confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on July 15, 2022.

Trekking system (Champions Path)

The 12 teams (12 winners of the second qualifying round (Champions Path), who for this draw will be referred to as winners of pairs 1 to 12) were divided into two groups of six pairs.

Within each of the two groups, the pairs were divided into an equal number of seeded and unseeded pairs.

Since the teams that qualified for the second qualifying round were not yet known at the time of the draw, the coefficient of the team with the higher coefficient of the two teams involved in each tie was used for the seeding for the purposes of the draw. If a team in a second qualifying round tie had a coefficient that entitled it to be seeded for the third qualifying round draw, the winner of that tie was automatically seeded for the draw.

Draw procedure (Champions Path)

Three bowls were set up for the draw. The balls with the names of the seeded and unseeded pairs were placed in the corresponding marked bowls.

Then one ball was taken from each of these bowls and placed in the third empty central bowl, where they were shuffled. The first pair then drawn from this bowl was considered the home team for the first leg of the first tie, which they would play against the second pair drawn.

The process was then repeated with the remaining balls until all the balls were tied.

Draw System (League Path)

The eight teams (six participating in the competition at this stage and the two winners of the second qualifying round, who for the purposes of this draw will be designated as winners of combinations 1 to 2) were divided equally into four seeded teams and four unseeded teams.
