Tottenham’s summer clearance continues with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg set for Marseille transfer

Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg completes his move to Marseille as Tottenham Hotspur continue their summer clean-up.

Marseille have signed an initial loan deal for the Danish midfielder, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent next year for a fee of £17million.

Hojbjerg arrived in France on Sunday evening and was spotted posing for photos with club fans.

Marseille have agreed a deal for Hojbjerg after completing a deal last week to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United for around £27million.

Tottenham Hotspur have also included a sell-on clause in the deal for Hojbjerg, whose contract was due to expire at the end of next season.

The 28-year-old joined Tottenham Hotspur from Southampton in 2020 for around £15million and has developed into a regular under José Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

He impressed for Denmark at Euro 2024, where he won the best player of the match award in the group stage against England in Germany.

However, Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that Hojbjerg does not fit into his attacking system and is yet another player shown the door by the Australian.

Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele and Japhet Tanganga have all been sacked, while Joe Rodon has been sold to Leeds and Troy Parrott has left for AZ Alkmaar, as Postecoglou reshapes his squad.

Richarlison is another player who could leave Spurs this summer. The Brazilian striker, a £60m signing from Everton in 2022, has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
