An 11-year-old Irish girl has died after falling from a seventh-floor balcony Club Mac Hotel in Alcudia, on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

“We are investigating the death of an 11-year-old Irish girl who died after falling from a seventh-floor terrace of a hotel in Alcudia,” a spokesman for Spain’s Guardia Civil in Mallorca told The Irish Mirror on Monday.

“The first emergency calls came in around 6:45 this morning.”

The Irish Mirror further reports that local police in Alcudia, who are employed by the town hall and were among the first on the scene, said in a statement: “At around 6:45 this morning we received a report that someone had fallen from the balcony of their apartment in the Mac Hotels hotel complex.

“Officers from this police unit, the Guardia Civil and ambulance personnel immediately went to the scene.

“When they arrived at the scene, they discovered an 11-year-old Irish girl who was already dead and had fallen from a seventh-floor balcony. The cause of this is still being investigated.

“We would like to express our condolences to the family of this young girl. Rest in peace.”

According to The Mirror, the girl is said to have fallen about 20 metres and landed on the roof of a restaurant on the first floor.

It is believed the young Irish girl’s relatives were asleep when the tragedy occurred, but police are still investigating.

The Irish girl was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics and other emergency services attempted to resuscitate her.

An autopsy is expected to take place later on Monday at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Palma.

A regional emergency coordination center has offered trauma counselors to the Irish girl’s family.

A spokesperson for the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs told The Independent: “The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the matter and is providing consular assistance.

“As with all consular matters, the department does not comment on the details of individual cases.”

According to The Mirror, a well-informed insider said: “The girl who died was one of three children.

The family were due to return to Ireland today.

“The girl’s parents were asleep when she fell and only realized afterwards what had happened.”

A Club Mac receptionist said Monday morning that the resort would not comment.
