Ukrainian Foreign Minister to Visit China This Week

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will travel to China for a three-day trip starting Tuesday, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

Kuleba is visiting the city at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the ministry said on Monday.

The main topics of the talks are ending Russian attacks on Ukraine and China’s role in achieving a lasting and just peace, the report said.

In Moscow, the Kremlin reacted cautiously to the announcement of the visit.

“For us, our relations with China are the most important thing,” said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We plan to continue on the path of developing Russian-Chinese relations in all areas.”

Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s all-out invasion for more than two years. Kiev has repeatedly tried to win Beijing over to its side, despite the “no limits” partnership declared by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Putin in February 2022.

Kiev’s Western allies see China as one of Russia’s most important allies, although Beijing says it is taking a neutral stance in the war.
