Becoming net zero by 2050 means reducing carbon emissions in Europe to zero to curb the rise in global temperatures and stabilise them within 1.5°C. To achieve this, the path to Europe becomes the first climate-neutral economythe Green Deal Industrial Plan for the Net Zero Era was published in February 2023. The plan has four pillars: a predictable and simplified regulatory environment; faster access to finance for clean technology; improve skills; And new business rules for resilient supply chains.

Research shows that 45% of CO2 emissions are not related to energy, but to products. Therefore, we must make efforts to improve design, reuse production waste, activate industrial symbiosis processes to optimally use secondary raw materials and recover and regenerate raw materials at the end of their life. An approach that will have to apply the principle of the circular economy to the different life stages of industrial production.

For example, experiences with industrial symbiosis, where the waste products and by-products of one company become raw materials for another company or production process, will undoubtedly grow. A way of working that goes ‘beyond’ just recycling, because energy and waste are not wasted, similar to what happens in natural ecosystems.
