365Scores’ Team of the Tournament

As the curtain falls on Euro 2024, fans are left with unforgettable memories of thrilling matches, eye-catching performances and Spain’s triumphant 2-1 win over England in the final. La Roja proved to be the dominant force throughout the tournament, and this is reflected in our Team of the Tournament, which features several of their key players who played a crucial role in their success.

While our selected formation may not be the most conventional, it aims to house the best talents in the competition, ensuring that no exceptional performance goes unnoticed. Here is our Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament, celebrating the best footballers who have lit up the European stage.

Goalkeeper – Mike Maignan (France)

Maignan is a serious goalkeeper. The AC Milan man has taken over the reins from Hugo Lloris and he has done so with verve.

He kept four clean sheets in his first five games, conceding just one goal against Poland. Unfortunately, he could have done absolutely nothing about Lamine Yamal’s beauty curling past him and kissing the top corner.

Right Back – Kyle Walker (England)

Walker has always been reliable for England and this tournament was no different. Walker helped keep England’s defence watertight en route to the final. His pace has not slowed down and it means teams are struggling to get behind England because he sweeps everything up. He is like a vacuum cleaner. Well done Kyle.

Central defender – William Saliba (France)

Saliba is a real Rolls-Royce of a central defender. He strikes fear into the opposition strikers and trusts his own keepers. That’s what you want in a defender.

The French defense was decisive in this tournament and we can thank Saliba for that.

Defender – Aymeric Laporte (Spain)

Laporte was written off by large sections of the Spanish media before the tournament. They denigrated him by saying that an Al-Nassr player in the Saudi Pro League would not make it to the European Championship level. Boy, were they wrong and didn’t they let Laporte know? Shortly after the final, Laporte hit back at the critics on Instagram with receipts from anyone who dared to criticize him.
I think the apologies now have to be as loud as the disrespect, because he was fantastic. He played like the Laporte who won countless trophies at Manchester City. At Euro 2024 he added a special new trophy.

Left back – Marc Cucurella (Spain)

Gary Neville said that Cucurella would be one of the reasons why Spain might not achieve all the glory. In fact, he was one of the reasons he did.

Cucurella has his doubters. After all, he didn’t have a great season at Chelsea. He was solid, but not special. Yet he was sensational at Euro 2024. He cut out the stupid fouls. His build-up play was immense. He even provided the assist for the winning goal in the final. Kudos, Marc!

Defensive midfielder – Rodri (Spain)

The player of the tournament, Rodri is just too good. He was injured in the final, but his work was done in the first six games. The football god rested on the seventh.

His passing was unbelievable, with a 93% pass success. He made 2.2 tackles per game. He scored. He moved the ball forward. He also got beaten by Jude Bellingham in the final, but we let him go. He’s unbelievable.

Central midfielder – Xavi Simons (Netherlands)

Xavi Simons’ name has been mentioned for so long that it’s easy to forget that the boy is only 21. Yet at 21, he is an extremely talented footballer. He showed that at the 2024 European Championship.

He scored once and provided three assists for his teammates. He is technically sound and has a self-confidence that shows he means business, he is there to win. After a season at RB Leipzig he is ready to tear it up for PSG.

Attacking midfielder – Dani Olmo

Olmo’s stock has skyrocketed, coming into the starting line-up in the third game only, and then making such an impression against Albania that he has started every game since.

He scored or assisted in four consecutive games on the way to the final, and exuded class. Against Germany, the hosts, he excelled with both a goal and an assist. Olmo was excellent and could have interesting matches this summer against teams such as Barcelona and Manchester City.

Left Winger – Cody Gakpo (Netherlands)

Gakpo, one of the sharers of the Golden Boot, played a very brilliant tournament. With three important goals and an assist, the Dutchman was serious.

Gakpo’s goals came at crucial moments and he led the line well for the Dutch despite having a somewhat unbalanced midfield behind him due to the absence of Frenkie de Jong. With a player like that back, Gakpo will explode.

Striker – Harry Kane (England)

Harry Kane comes into our team here as a finalist and top scorer. Look, I’ll be honest, there were times when it looked like Harry Kane was running through molasses. This wasn’t the same Kane we saw ripping through for Bayern Munich in the 2023/24 season. However, he’s still deadly if you give him a chance and he finished with three goals, equal for the Golden Boot.

Right winger – Lamine Yamal (Spain)

Oh Lamine Yamal, wow, wow, wow. This man (boy) is unbelievably good at football. The young player of the tournament. And the youngest too! If you were living under a rock and didn’t know him before the tournament started, you definitely know him now.

Yamal was 16 (SIXTEEN) years old for most of the tournament, doing his Spanish school exams while simultaneously scoring goals and providing assists for fun. Crazy. He had a goal involvement in every knockout match, including the final. This man is the truth. The youngest oldest. Watch out, the future is now!
