Ollie Cooper | Hard work in Austrian heat can pay off

Midfielder Ollie Cooper believes a week of work in the Austrian heat could pay dividends for Swansea City when the Championship campaign gets underway.

The Wales international is among a group working with head coach Luke Williams and his staff at their base near the town of Stegersbach, as the Swans are welcomed by high temperatures.

In addition to the training sessions, there are also friendlies against FC Köln and FK Vardar scheduled for the coming days. Cooper believes that the chance to work together as a unit in a new environment is a real opportunity for the selection.

“It’s been really good so far,” Cooper said at the end of the first day of camp.

“It’s of course nice for us to get away as a group in a different environment. You can spend a lot more time together, and that’s always good.

“We have a long week of hard work ahead of us, it’s really busy here, but this is a situation where you want to put all that work in so that it pays off and you see the benefits when the season starts.

“I think it can only be an advantage if you go out together as a team and spend all that time together, both on and off the pitch.

“We also have two friendlies against the type of opponents we don’t normally come up against, so that will be a different challenge but one to look forward to.”
