Max Verstappen reprimands critics in five words after Lewis Hamilton crash

Max Verstappen told his critics to “fuck off” during an explosive media session following his crash with Lewis Hamilton at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The three-time F1 world champion endured a hot race at the Hungaroring, taking second place at Turn 1 but passing Norris off the track. Although he initially refused, he eventually listened to his engineer and handed the place back to the McLaren driver.

Verstappen was then vocally critical of Red Bull’s strategy on team radio, before colliding with old foe Hamilton in the closing stages. The Dutchman came in at Turn One and the pair collided, with Verstappen coming off the worse, finishing fifth, while Hamilton took third on the podium.

For Verstappen it was the crowning achievement of a day to forget quickly. When he was told in Budapest that he had perhaps let his frustration go too far, the 26-year-old driver reacted brutally.

“I see a lot of reactions from people saying ‘you’re too frustrated, you’ve gone too far in your reactions, you’re not showing respect for the team,’” he said. “They can all go to hell.”

Verstappen blamed Hamilton for their collision, despite pundits and insiders insisting the Dutchman was to blame. Both were cleared by stewards after the race.

“I got a lot of shit thrown at me in Austria when people said I pulled away under braking,” he said, referring to his collision with Norris at the Austrian Grand Prix.

“I position my car for the first move and then I kept it straight. Today, when braking, it just kept turning to the right and that’s why I blocked because I was going for the move, but I kept seeing the car coming towards me on the outside.

“Otherwise we would have crashed earlier. I had to stop the car, so I locked it.”

However, Hamilton accused Verstappen of “hostility” and blamed the Red Bull driver.

Verstappen described the team’s strategy as “s***” during the race and his anger boiled over. His engineer Gianpiero Lambiase at one point called his driver “childish” when pleading his case after the collision with Hamilton.

Verstappen’s fifth-place finish means his lead in the Formula 1 World Championship has shrunk to 76 points, after Norris finished second.
