This is how Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani responded last night on Tg1 to Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race for the White House, “news that had been in the air for a few days”.

“The news was in the air, especially after the Covid attack that hit President Biden. It is not up to us to interfere in the American election campaign. We are friends of the US anyway and we must maintain solid relations in the transatlantic action that is a priority of our foreign policy,” Tajani added, speaking to Tg2 Post. “I convey my best wishes to Biden. His choice is probably the right one for his party and for the coalition he has led until today,” he concluded.
