Lok Sabha Speaker calls for cooperation in budget session

New Delhi, July 22 Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to all parties to work together and hold meaningful discussions during the budget session of Parliament beginning on Monday.

In a message on X, Speaker Birla appealed to all leaders for cooperation and said, “The Budget session of the 18th Lok Sabha begins today. I hope all MPs will work together and have meaningful discussions. We will collectively contribute to the progress of the nation.”

The budget session is expected to last until August 12. On the first day of the session on Monday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the economic overview.

During this session, the focus will be mainly on financial matters related to the Union Budget for 2024-2025. On the second day, the Minister of Finance will introduce the Union Budget in Parliament.

The budget of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) will also be presented on July 23.

The government will seek to introduce and pass six bills, including the Finance (No. 2) Bill, 2024; the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024; the Boilers Bill, 2024; the Bhartiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill, 2024, the Coffee (Promotion and Development) Bill, 2024 and the Rubber (Promotion and Development) Bill, 2024.

In addition, three financial issues will be discussed in Parliament, namely the general discussion of the central budget for 2024-2025, the discussion and vote on the subsidy applications for the year 2024-2025 and the introduction, processing and approval of the accompanying budget law.

The government will also discuss and vote on the grant applications for the Union Territory of J&K for the financial year 2024-25 and submit, consider and pass the related Budget Bill.
