Social Democrat leader Ciolacu tops Romania’s presidential election

Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader and Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu ranks first in terms of voting intentions in the presidential election, followed by George Simion (AUR, 19%) and Mircea Geoană (Independent, 15%).

According to a survey by Sociopol, cited by News.ro, Elena Lasconi (USR, 14%) and Nicolae Ciucă (PNL, 12%) are in second place.

The survey was conducted between July 9 and 17, 2024, on a sample of 1,002 people interviewed using the CATI method (telephone). The margin of error is +/- 3.2% for a confidence level of 95%.

According to the calendar drawn up by the PNL-PSD coalition, the presidential elections will take place on November 24 and December 8 respectively.

On December 1, the national holiday, Romanians are called upon to vote on the composition of parliament.
