Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg AB reported second quarter revenues – from continuing operations – approximately in line with the prior year period, at SEK8,711 million (€751 million).

The performance, reported on July 18, reflected a 1% year-over-year increase in organic sales, which offset a similar decline in revenue due to structural changes.

Profit (EBITA, excluding items affecting comparability) increased 2% year-on-year to SEK1,599 million – representing the best single quarter performance to date.

The group performed “well in the second quarter… after a few quarters where we reported a slight organic decline,” said Peter Nilsson, president and CEO.

Trelleborg Industrial Solutions’ (TIS) organic sales slowed marginally due to weak demand in the construction market and several industrial segments.

TIS, on the other hand, achieved growth in the automotive and energy sectors and benefited from new orders for large infrastructure projects.

Organic sales at Trelleborg Medical Solutions rose two percentage points, helped by sales in the North American medical technology market, while inventory trends made the outlook for the third quarter “slightly more positive.”

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions reported a slight decline in organic sales within the general industrial sector, but increased deliveries to the automotive and aerospace industries.

For the group as a whole, Nilsson said: “Our general assessment of the current situation is that demand in the third quarter will be slightly higher than in the second quarter.”

Trelleborg’s margin target of 20%, he added, “is within reach as markets improve and synergies from previous acquisitions are realized as planned.”
