Intriguing gold-copper results for Latitude 66 in Finland

A sample of a rock fragment at the surface of Latitude 66’s Peräpohja Schist Belt Project (PSB) in Northern Finland, showing 137.7 grams of gold and 10.6 percent copper per tonne, has given management a new glimpse into the treasures hidden beneath.

The company says the latest results have confirmed multiple gold-copper mineralisation trends from ice streams extending up to 2 km. Initial rock sampling at the site alongside previous exploration has identified respective gold-copper mineralisation trends extending up to 2 km, 1.6 km and 1.2 km, with the company now re-examining previous work from the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), including till base, diamond drilling and geophysical data.

Rock sampling and geophysical electromagnetic (EM) surveys are also continuing.

The PSB project covers 412 square kilometres in the eastern basin and was initially identified by extensive historical exploration by GTK. The latest rock sampling has increased the prospects of the region, indicating possible extensions and the emergence of a new gold-copper system in northern Finland.

Grant Coyle, CEO of Latitude 66, said: “These significant results from our rock sampling program confirm multiple gold-copper trends with extended strike lengths, reinforcing our confidence in further extensions of the mineralization. Our exploration efforts at the PSB Project continue as we re-analyse previous work to deepen our understanding of the geology and discovery potential of the region.”

The company says sampling at PSB has revealed two promising gold and copper trends, consistent with rock types such as dolerite. Multiple ice flow mineralized trends – calculated through the study of glacier streak direction – have been interpreted at the project’s P4 trend, which spans 2km and shows impressive results including 137.7 g/t gold, 10.6 percent copper, 0.16 percent cobalt and 73 g/t silver.

The sample was taken from a broad quartz-sulphide vein approximately 10 cm wide in metadolerite bedrock, with visible pyrite and some chalcopyrite and malachite. In addition, the P3 trend extending over 1.6 km has returned significant grades including 3.2 percent copper, 1.2 g/t gold and 0.08 percent cobalt.

The trends are positioned near major northwest-trending structural faults and southwest-trending fold closures within dolerites – perfect sites for mineralization. The interpreted trends result from the distribution and angularity of local rock samples.

During the remainder of this month, Latitude plans to ramp up field activities to further investigate the geological units at the Petaja, Reutu and Vinsa prospects. This will consist of ground-based prospecting, rock and outcrop sampling and structural investigations using EM, induced polarisation (IP) and magnetic surveys, together with data from GTK.

With the summer exploration period in Northern Finland short, the race is on for Latitude to take advantage of the time and dig deeper into the promising lands, hoping to cement PSB as a new province with high gold and copper grades.
