WTA Prague Day 2 Predictions Including Katerina Siniakova vs Louisa Chirico

Katerina Siniakova has enjoyed great success at the WTA event in Prague in recent years, reaching the semi-finals in 2015 and the quarter-finals in 2017-19 and 2021. The Czech is seeded second in the 2024 edition and begins her campaign with a second head-to-head match with Louisa Chirico. We also predict the rest of the day’s matches, split across two other articles. One article focuses on Magda Linette vs Mona Barthel, while the other one highlights Linda Noskova vs Katarina Zavatska. Who do you think will win?

WTA Prague Day 2 Predictions

Barbora Palicova vs. Oksana Selekhmeteva

Head-to-head: First meeting

This should be an exciting clash between two talented youngsters. Barbora Palicova is a lot more erratic and has wasted her 2023 season quite a bit, but has recently found some form again. In June in particular, she showed her deadly potential again, winning back-to-back ITF events in Otocec and Gdansk. Oksana Selekhmeteva, however, is on a similar run now, reaching the final in Montpellier and winning Rome. She is a lot more solid, but must watch out for Palicova’s powerful game.
Prediction: Selekhmeteva in 3

Zeynep Sonmez vs. Dominika Salkova

Head-to-head: First meeting

This should be a fun match between two youngsters who are currently at the highest level of their careers. Zeynep Sonmez has given himself plenty of opportunities to gain experience on the main tour recently, while Dominika Salkova has risen through ITF runs in addition to Slam qualifying appearances. The Czech won a stack of ITF in Prague in May, but that event was held at a different venue. Sonmez doesn’t have the most impressive game, so perhaps this is a good chance for the Czech youngster to play with a “go big or go home” attitude and possibly succeed.
Prediction: Salkova in 3

Anastasiia Soboleva vs. Eva Lys

Head-to-head: First meeting

The 20-year-old Anastasiia Soboleva earned her right to a second appearance on the main tour with three-set wins over Lucie Safarova and Jesika Maleckova in qualifying. She did reasonably well in Cluj-Napoca last year, taking a set from Anna Bondar. Eva Lys would normally be within her reach, but it could be a bit tougher now given the German’s form. Not only did she qualify for Roland Garros and Wimbledon, she is also coming off a semi-final in Budapest and should be exuding confidence at the moment.
Prediction: Lys in 2

Katerina Siniakova vs. Louisa Chirico

Head-to-head: Siniakova 1-0

Louisa Chirico is still far from the level that once brought her close to the Top 50, but she is still there and working hard to get back where she was. She recently impressed in the semi-final in Bastad and also looked very solid in qualifying here. In terms of match rhythm on clay, she will clearly have much more than Katerina Siniakova. But realistically, it seems that the difference in quality between her and the second seed may be a bit too big.
Prediction: Siniakova in 2
