LAHORE: The Immigration Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested Irfan for attempting to travel to Greece on a fake visa, a spokesperson of FIA Lahore said.

During the preliminary interrogation, Irfan revealed that he had paid Rs1.5 million to Sialkot-based travel agents Malik Yaseen and Malik Owais Awan. He planned to travel to Greece illegally via Turkey. Irfan was transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle for further investigation.

Sarfraz Khan Virk, Director of FIA Lahore Zone, stressed that efforts against illegal international travel would continue. In a related operation at Multan Airport, FIA officials dropped off eight passengers, including five women, who were involved in a begging scheme. The suspects, who were from Lodhran and Multan, were travelling to Saudi Arabia on Umrah visas. They were carrying around 500 riyals each and failed to convince immigration officials of their legitimate Umrah intentions. A search of their luggage revealed 900 cartons of cigarettes and 70 packets of ‘Velo’. The suspects were handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Multan for further legal proceedings, an FIA spokesperson said.
