Appropriate punitive measures will be imposed on imitators – Ministry of Youth and Sports – Citi Sports Online

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has stated that strict disciplinary action will be taken against the group of Ghanaian para-athletes who allegedly fled Oslo, Norway, with the intention of participating in the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon.

This announcement follows a letter from the Ministry of National Security addressed to both the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

The letter revealed that a contingent of 11 participants from Ghana had arrived in Oslo on April 25, 2024 to take part in the marathon, but that these participants did not show up.

Subsequently, one of the team members, Nana Antwi, a para-athlete, was detained by a search team as he tried to travel by train from Norway to Sweden.

Ghana Paralympic Committee president Samson Deen claimed his signature was forged by individuals posing as the team in Norway.

In response, the Ministry of Youth and Sports issued a statement on Sunday, July 21, 2024, and stated that they were not aware of the Paralympic team’s participation in the marathon.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports further stated that they are cooperating with the relevant authorities to investigate the situation and find out the details surrounding the incident.
