German police prevent ‘major terrorist attack’ ahead of England’s Euro 2024 final against Spain

German police prevent 'major terrorist attack' ahead of England's Euro 2024 final against Spain

The plot was foiled before the match at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

The 2024 Euro final was a major news event due to the events on the pitch, but it appears that police took measures ahead of the final to prevent the events from becoming the main event.

The final was played at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Spain made history by beating England 2-1 in the final to secure a record fourth European Championship title.

Cole Palmer came on as a substitute and equalised after Nico Williams had put Spain ahead, but just before the end of the match Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winning goal, ensuring that England have not won the trophy since 1966.

As always with large events, there is always a lot of security and police presence. The authorities want to make sure that everything runs smoothly and that everyone present is safe.

Unfortunately, such events can present an opportunity for people and organizations seeking to disrupt matters and, in the worst case, harm others.

It has now come to light that a plot was afoot targeting the English fans and their fan zone at Breitscheidplatz, where supporters gathered en masse to see the Three Lions ultimately succumb to the Spanish.

Details show that a potentially dangerous situation was ultimately avoided thanks to the actions of the German police.

According to a report from The Sun, a total of three suspects have been arrested after coordinated raids by special forces in the Berlin suburb of Potsdam, just hours before kick-off at the Olympiastadion. The arrested are said to be ‘known IS supporters’ who were already being monitored by German police.

A Berlin police spokesman said: “The homes of three men were searched at three addresses in Potsdam.

“The operation involved troops from the special task forces.

“The measures were taken in connection with a direct threat from the Islamist spectrum.”

The three suspects have since been released after being questioned by the police.

The report shows that the addresses were searched when five men were sought after after they were photographed with their phones at a large church and on Breitscheidplatz.
