Harvesting at night – dangerous and noisy, but necessary? – English section

Now that the harvest season has begun, farmers in Poland have asked for leniency in maintaining the silence required at night by public order regulations.

Krzysztof Grabowski, chairman of the Agricultural Council of Greater Poland, has asked farmers’ neighbours not to call the police if farmers work at night and make noise.

He also asked farmers to pay extra attention to children during the harvest period – that is, make sure they are at home, away from combine harvesters. In Poland, as in other countries, children were often involved in harvesting in the past, to speed up the work in favorable weather conditions. But with largely mechanized harvesting, this can be extremely dangerous for minors.

According to the Polish Press Agency, the number of accidents in 2023 decreased compared to 2022, but there were still an alarming 1,203 accidents, 5 of which were fatal.
