He punctuated this announcement with Ronaldo’s iconic celebration phrase ‘Sure‘. For both stars, however, the tournament did not go as expected. Portugal were eliminated in the quarter-finals by France. Remarkably, Cristiano Ronaldo ended the tournament without scoring a goal – the first time he experienced such a result in an international competition.

Ultimately, it was Harry Kane, Dani Olmo, Georges Mikautadze, Cody Gakpo, Ivan Schranz and Jamal Musiala who each claimed a share of the Golden Boot awards with three goals apiece. Considering that Conor McGregor previously made significant profits off the back of Lamine Yamal’s exploits, this $60,000 setback is unlikely to have much of a financial impact on him.
