Leeds’ six young players fly to Germany as Daniel Farke thinks about the next generation

Leeds United have released a video online of their squad boarding a plane to Germany ahead of a summer training camp in Daniel Farke’s home country, including six young players.

It is the first time Max Wober has been spotted with the Leeds badge since his departure to Gladbach last summer. The Austrian’s future was uncertain until last Friday, after the victory in Harrogate.

Farke confirmed after the 3-0 win that Wober would join Brenden Aaronson in returning to Leeds. In the two-minute clip Leeds posted, both Aaronson and Wober were seen boarding the plane.

But alongside Wober, Aaronson and the rest of Leeds’ squad, including new signings Joe Rodon, Alex Cairns and Joe Rothwell, there were six young players called up by manager Farke to make the cut.

The win over Harrogate gave a taste of which young players would be coming along, with Sam Chambers of course getting his name on the scoreboard after Joe Gelhardt made a brilliant run to score a third.

Charlie Crew made a real impression in midfield and the Wales star boarded the plane with Chambers, with goalkeeper Harry Christy and striker Luca Thomas the first two to board.

Archie Gray’s younger brother Harry, just 15, was also seen climbing the steps for the trip to Germany. Impressive defender James Debayo, who started at Harrogate, was also in attendance.

Other notable additions and absences from Leeds’ video

Patrick Bamford has stepped into the scheme despite not having featured much in first-team training to date. He is recovering from an injury while Leeds’ medical department gradually and carefully increase his training load.

The England striker was not in the squad that beat Harrogate but will certainly get some minutes in the two friendlies Leeds play in Germany. Junior Firpo was also among the players who boarded the plane.

Left-back Firpo has been heavily linked with Real Betis and a possible reunion with Marc Roca and Diego Llorente, but he is now in Germany, with new signing Jayden Bogle expected to join the squad later.
