CM Shinde instructs authorities to remain vigilant amid heavy rains, flooding in Maha

Mumbai, July 21 Amid heavy rains and floods, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday directed the government, police, SDRF and local bodies to be vigilant and focus on rescue and relief work.

CM Shinde’s directives came after the Indian Meteorological Department warned of heavy rains in some districts of Konkan, including Mumbai and other districts. He appealed to the citizens to help the government and emergency services in all possible ways.

He asked all agencies to get timely information from the IMD and the State Disaster Management Cell and prepare an action plan to help the citizens. He also directed the administration to disseminate information regarding the IMD warnings among the citizens.

The Chief Minister asked the administration to examine possible disaster and accident prone areas and urged that the preparedness of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) should be high. The water level of dams and ponds should be determined and a controlled drainage system should be constructed to prevent the risk of flooding. Traffic in flood-affected areas should be stopped and diverted to alternative routes in case of flooding, he told the officials.

CM Shinde requested the government to make food grains, medicines and other relief materials available on priority basis in the flood-affected areas.
