Polish MiG-29s could appear in Ukraine in six months

Polish MiG-29 aircraft may appear in Ukraine in about six months, depending on when they are replaced by the new American F-35s.

This was stated by former Polish Defense Minister Janusz Onyszkiewicz in a commentary to Ukrinform.

“The transfer of the remaining Polish MiG-29s to Ukraine will depend on the schedule of delivery of F-35s to Poland, which are supposed to replace them. I think it can take about six months,” the expert stressed.

When assessing the security agreement recently signed in Warsaw between Ukraine and Poland, the expert called it good, as it has “significant practical and political significance”.

In May, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces Wiesław Kukuła announced that the first F-35 aircraft would appear in Poland in August.

As reported, the security agreement between Ukraine and Poland was signed on July 8 in Warsaw by President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. In particular, it provides for “consideration of the possibility of transferring a MiG-29 squadron without prejudice to the security of Poland and the operational capabilities of the Polish Air Force.” At the time, during a press conference in Warsaw, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine was counting on these post-Soviet aircraft, which had been modernized to NATO standards. In turn, Tusk said that he did not know the exact date of their transfer to Ukraine, since they still carry out missions in NATO airspace.
