War in Ukraine – Russian troops report further advance in Donbass

Russian troops have announced a new attack deposit in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk. The town of Krasnohoriwka (Russian: Krasnogorovka), northwest of the annexed Donetsk territorial administrative headquarters, has been almost completely taken over, the state news agency Tass reported, citing military sources.

Ukrainian soldiers reportedly surrendered and were captured. There are still many civilians in the city, some of whom have already been taken to safety in other parts of the Donbass region, it was reported. The Russian claims could not be verified by an independent source.

Earlier, Russian forces had reported tactical successes in other parts of the Donetsk region. Russia’s goal is to gain full control of the roughly coal-rich Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.

The pro-government Ukrainian military channel Deep State confirmed on Telegram the Russian advance in Krasnohoriwka and other areas. For example, the village of Progress in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk has been occupied by Russian troops.

The enemy managed to end the fighting, which had been going on since the second half of April, within two days. Russian troops reportedly launched a massive attack on July 19. Ukrainian troops had retreated, it was reported.

There was no official confirmation of territorial losses in Kiev. Both sides reported that numerous enemy drones were fired on Sunday.

Ukraine has been defending itself against Russian aggression for more than two years with military help from the West. About a fifth of the country is under the control of Russian troops. Russia has illegally declared the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson as its territory – but does not have full control over them.

  1. The advance of Russian troops in Krasnogorovka, located in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk, has raised concerns in Kiev.
  2. Despite Russian claims that they have taken over Krasnogorovka, several water reservoirs in and around the city remain under Ukrainian control, posing a potential obstacle to Moscow’s advance.
  3. Russia’s bid to gain full control of the coal-rich Donbass region, which includes Krasnogorovka, has faced fierce resistance from Ukrainian troops and civilians in cities such as Kiev.
  4. The armed forces in Ukraine are receiving support from various international organizations to repel the Russian advance in areas such as Donetsk and Krasnogorovka.
  5. The progress of the conflicts in Donetsk and other regions of Ukraine, including the advances of Russian troops in Krasnogorovka, are closely monitored by international organizations and governing bodies in Moscow and Kiev.
