India names unselected player as injury replacement for Shreyanka Patil in Asia Cup

Shreyanka will not play in the remainder of the Women’s Asia Cup after suffering a fracture to the fourth finger of her left hand. The Asian Cricket Council confirmed Tanuja Kanwar as her replacement in a press release on Saturday, July 20.

The 21-year-old played a key role with the ball against Pakistan in their opening match of the tournament, taking 2/14 in 3.2 overs and helping to bowl the opposition out. She sustained the injury while attempting to catch a ball but managed to complete the match.

Her replacement, Kanwar, is also a spinner who performed well in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for the Gujarat Giants this year, finishing with 10 wickets from eight matches at an economy of 7.13.

Shreyanka suffered a hairline fracture on the same hand earlier this year during the WPL, which saw her miss a couple of matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite this, she finished the season with 13 wickets — the most by a bowler — and returned with four-for in the final to give RCB their first WPL title.
