In one of the most surprising transfers of 2024, Julian Alaphilippe could join a Swiss PRT team!

Officially, cycling transfers aren’t announced until August 1, but that hasn’t stopped the rumors from spreading. The latest outfit change could be as spicy as it is surprising, with Julian Alaphilippe reportedly moving to the Pro Continental Q36.5 Pro Cycling.

WielerFlits has learned from multiple sources that Alaphilippe “recently offered himself to Q36.5 Pro Cycling”. The Swiss ProTeam led by Doug Ryder is in its second season. This year they were largely overshadowed by Fabian Cancellara’s Tudor Pro Cycling in the hunt for wildcards. With a two-time world champion on board, however, many doors could certainly open for Q36.5.

The 32-year-old Frenchman has ridden his entire professional career for Soudal – Quick-Step. However, in recent years there has been some turbulence in his relationship with team boss Patrick Lefevere. Alaphilippe, who has a world championship salary, has struggled to make ends meet in races since his second title in 2020.

That was the case until May, when Alaphilippe reminded everyone of his class at the Giro d’Italia, taking a stage win and four combativity awards. After the Italian Grand Tour, it seems that both parties will have to sit down to discuss a possible contract extension, but the outcome of those talks remains unknown.
