Liverpool transfer news: Goncalo Inacio bid being prepared amid double setback for Barcelona

Arne Slot has yet to make his first signing since taking over from Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager, although a bid for Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio looks increasingly likely

The Arne Slot era has begun at Liverpool, but it feels like the summer transfer window hasn’t even started yet.

Despite a number of players, young and old, following Jurgen Klopp out of Anfield last month, the Reds are yet to make their first signing since Slot took over. With just one pre-season friendly under their belt – a shock 1-0 defeat to Championship side Preston North End – fans haven’t had much to get excited about so far.

Luckily for them, it appears the wheels are turning and Liverpool’s cheque book is being opened.

Here’s a roundup of the latest transfer news from Anfield.

Liverpool prepare bid for Inacio

Liverpool have identified Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio as their priority transfer target and are preparing to submit their first offer. The Reds are reportedly interested in signing a left-footed centre-back this summer and Inacio, who played for Portugal at Euro 2024, would fit the bill.

Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha claim that despite initially being unwilling to sell for less than €60 million (£51 million), Sporting have agreed to open talks for €45 million (£38 million) in a fee that would represent a bargain for Liverpool, who have long been tipped to sign the 22-year-old.

Double blow expected for Barcelona

Barcelona are reportedly confident they can strike deals to sign BOTH Nico Williams and Dani Olmo, two players who have also been linked with Liverpool. Athletic Bilbao winger Williams is set to move to Catalonia, local publication Sport reports, while Barca are also ready to step up their efforts to sign Olmo from RB Leipzig.
