May 26, 2006, Dr. Kalam’s visit to Switzerland, is celebrated as Science Day rural in Switzerland. The Rocket Man and the late President APJ Abdul Kalam is being honoured at the Swiss Government Science Day for his extensive contributions to science and technology. Many scientists in India and Switzerland get inspired in this as Dr. Kalam was an avid scientist and was considered the founder of the Indian missile program. After more than thirty years, Kalam was the first Indian head of state to visit Switzerland. Kalam is known for his important role in the development of the Indian Missile Mission, which included ‘Agni’. He also supervised the tests as Chief Project Coordinator for the nuclear weapon – ‘Pokhran-II’.
