Marina Satti supports UNHCR refugee children with music video ‘Ah THALASSA’

UNHCR, the UN refugee agencyis pleased to announce that Greek singer, songwriter and music producer Marina Satti — who represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the legendary song “Zari” — is joining the Agency’s call for solidarity with refugees. The star is donating the proceeds from her new music video, “Ah THALASSA” (Oh Sea)for UNHCR’s work for child refugees.

The video is a painful reminder that our seas have become the eternal home of tens of thousands of people, and it also draws attention to an ongoing tragedy that we often forget.

UNHCR Representative in Greece, Maria Clara Martin, welcomed this tangible act of solidarity with refugees by Marina Satti and noted:

“Rarely a week goes by without stories from across the Mediterranean and beyond of people losing their lives while trying to escape conflict and human rights violations. This news has been shockingly normalized. We are grateful that artists like Marina Satti are using their powerful voices to call for an end to such tragedies. They amplify our urgent calls for a meaningful response. Saving lives, sharing responsibility and solidarity must be at the heart of such a response.”

The video clip of “Ah THALASSA” is a co-production between Hiersoir (France) and Nomad Productions (Greece), directed by Cyprien Clément-Delmas. Text: Lena Kitsopoulou.

All proceeds from Marina Satti and Madhouse Records will be donated to UNHCR in support of refugee children.

This new initiative comes amid record levels of forced displacement globally, with 120 million people fleeing their homes due to conflict, violence and persecution. Half of the world’s refugees are children, who have seen their lives destroyed in an instant. At the same time, the right to seek safety is under threat in many parts of the world. With increased wars and conflicts around the world, thousands of people are taking dangerous sea and land routes to protect themselves and their families. In 2023 alone, it is estimated that more than 4,100 people, including hundreds of children, are believed to have died or gone missing while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea.

Text: Marina Satti – “Ah THALASSA”

Ah, sea
My sea
Take me in to drown
Without love
I don’t want to live here in the country
But you are so calm, my sea
A mirror that reflects birds
But I’m a wave
Calm waters

Ah, sea
My sea, I
Live for a miracle of yours tonight
Sinking in a storm
In the dark depths
But you are so calm, my sea
A mirror that reflects birds back at you
But I’m a wave
