King Frederik and his wife Queen Mary of Denmark have left for a holiday abroad, leaving their 18-year-old son, Crown Prince Christian, as leader of the kingdom.

According to Hello Magazine, the teenager will act as a regent while his parents take a break

The royal couple left for their summer vacation on Saturday morning and will return shortly, ending on July 23.

Crown Prince Christian is the eldest son of King Frederik and Queen Mary, a family of four children.

He has acted as regent several times in the past when his parents had to fly out for important state visits.

This proves to be a useful practice session for him, as the royal boy is now first in line to take over the Danish throne after King Frederik succeeds Queen Margarethe in January.

In recent months in particular, Crown Prince Christian has achieved a number of milestones, including graduating from Ordrup Gymnasium secondary school in Copenhagen.

His 17-year-old sister, Princess Isabella, also attends the same institution.

They have two younger siblings, 13-year-old twins named Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
