Ratcliffe addresses Arsenal obsession as £51m midfielder ‘agrees personal terms’

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Arsenal-linked Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

The Red Devils have completed the signings of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee and 18-year-old central defender Leny Yoro. The next player on the agenda is Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte appears to be their main target with an agreement on personal conditions that has already been recorded.

Ugarte is not the only midfielder on Man Utd’s shortlist.

According to The Telegraph, there is ‘some interest in Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi’.

This will come as a blow to Arsenal’s transfer plans soon as there are reports elsewhere claiming that Mikel Arteta is ‘obsessed’ with the 25-year-old and are keen to sign him this summer.

The report claims:

In addition to Yoro, United have also signed Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5m. The team is also reportedly keen to sign a midfielder in the No. 6 position.

They are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain for Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who shares the same agent as Yoro – Jorge Mendes. As with the centre-back position, where United have had simultaneous talks over Yoro, Branthwaite and De Ligt, it is believed the club have multiple boards in the air for midfielders.

Talks over Ugarte appear to be the most advanced at the moment, but there is some interest in Real Sociedad defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who recently won the European Championship with Spain, and others. Adrien Rabiot, the French midfielder who is a free agent after leaving Juventus at the end of last season, has also been linked.

It is not impossible that Sofyan Amrabat, who spent last season on loan at Old Trafford, could return, depending on how the midfield develops. United will sell Casemiro if a good offer is made for the experienced Brazilian midfielder.

United midfielder Scott McTominay is attracting interest from a number of clubs, not least Fulham, who have already had a bid rejected. McTominay, who is valued at £25m-£30m, has also been linked with Everton, Newcastle, Spurs and Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, Benfica president Rui Costa has confirmed they have received a bid for a midfielder linked with Man Utd Joao Nevesreportedly from PSG, who are clearly open to selling Ugarte.

Costa said: “There is a proposal for Joao, yes. We are discussing the amount.

“I never said that Joao would only leave for €120 million (release clause).”
