The white sandy beaches are pristine and are the main attraction of the city.

But because of its location it is also known as one of the windiest cities in Europe.

This means that kitesurfers flock to this area and it is a great place to check it out or try it yourself with a lesson from a local instructor.

Dolphin and whale watching is also an option. You can spot the animals by boat.

Also worth a visit is the 800-year-old Tarifa Castle, between the old town and the coast.

Furthermore, the old town itself is full of bars and restaurants, with a mix of both Spanish and Moroccan influences.

This also applies to the stalls, where all kinds of African and Moroccan souvenirs are sold.

Otherwise, you can walk between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea via a long path between the two.

And thanks to its location, you can easily take a day trip to Africa.

Ferries operate between Tarifa and Tangier in Morocco. The crossing takes approximately 35 minutes.

What is it like to visit Tarifa?

The Sun’s Harry Cox visited Tarifa before – here’s what he had to say.

If you want to go kitesurfing, there is no better place to go than Tarifa in Andalusia, Spain.

I’m not a natural, which became clear when I hit the ground face down for the 56th time.

Kitesurfing is a cruel mistress. But for every hour of misery there are ten minutes of joy.

After 11pm, Tarifa’s old town turns into what we in Britain would call a street party.

There is a courtyard with bars around it and seating in the middle, it is so lively that it almost has a festival atmosphere.

Tarifa also has plenty of options for day trips. Drive 20 minutes along the coast to Baelo Claudia, the ruins of an ancient Roman city.

If you go to Tarifa and discover that kitesurfing isn’t for you, you’ll find plenty to do.

And here is the Spanish coastal town that has been voted the best in the country.

And if you’re on a budget, we’ve found the cheapest seaside resort in Spain for a holiday.
