Geneva welcomes possible hosting of Eurovision Song Contest 2025

The City and Canton of Geneva are delighted to have been chosen as one of the two finalists in the race to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Basel and Geneva have been nominated to host the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland, and one of them will have the honour of welcoming the Eurovision Train when the Eurovision Song Contest lands in the city in May!

We might go to Geneva next year for the Eurovision Song Contest! City of Geneva is all set to welcome the Eurovision Song Contest with all its glitz, glitter and glamour if it wins the bid to host the event. Geneva is in the running to host Eurovision 2025 in the Palexpo, which is just a stone’s throw from the EBU headquarters. The Palexpo can accommodate around 15,000 spectators.

Geneva has a fantastic international flair, as it hosts the headquarters of numerous international institutions, including the UN, WHO and the EBUIf Geneva wins the tender, it will contribute 30 million Swiss francs to the organisation of the event.

Geneva has an excellent public transport system and an international airport with a large number of flight connections all over the world.

The official press release from Cantona and the City of Geneva reads:

The Canton and City of Geneva were delighted to receive the announcement from SSR today. Geneva is now neck and neck with Basel and by taking part in this final selection round, it is one of the two regions who could organize the competition next May.

For the Mayor of Geneva, Christina Kitsos, “this is excellent news and we are delighted to see Geneva among the finalists. We will continue our efforts to convince the selection committee of the seriousness and enthusiasm of Geneva’s candidacy. Geneva, as a global city, a crossroads of ideas, cultures and peace, is ideally placed to host this major event”.

Thierry Apothéloz, Vice-President of the Council of State, noted that “we will continue to work hand in hand with the city, Palexpo, Geneva Tourism, as well as the players in the economy and civil society, to come up with a project that will make this 2025 edition unforgettable for Switzerland, Europe, but also for the people of Geneva”.

The successful completion of this phase is evidence of the high quality of the submitted fileGeneva must now consolidate its project and answer all questions from the organizing committee.

The host city will be announced by SRG on the end of august.
