Poland EURO 2024 star is the ‘missing piece’ to strengthen Inter Milan

Midfielder Piotr Zielinski could be the ‘missing piece’ needed to strengthen Inter’s midfield.

That’s the opinion in today’s print edition of Milanese newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They suggest that the addition of the Pole is just what Inter need to maintain their grip on the Serie A title.

Inter face a special challenge this summer transfer window.

It has long been clear that the Nerazzurri’s real priority is to keep the existing squad together.

Clearly, there is no need for a radical overhaul of the Inter squad. The backbone of the current Nerazzurri team comes from a season in which they won the Serie A title by a margin of almost twenty points.

However, that does not mean that Inter can stand still on the transfer market.

Certainly not as long as rivals AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli have spent the summer on ambitious reinforcement campaigns.

Midfield was not exactly an area where Inter were obvious and needed reinforcement last season.

The Nerazzurri had an excellent trio with great technical and physical qualities and a strong balance: Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella.

Kristjan Asllani has become Calhanoglu’s understudy.

And it feels like there’s more from the action-packed Davide Frattesi to come.

But with Zielinski, Inter have brought in a player who will put an exclamation mark behind their midfield.

Even with all the major changes taking place, Inter should still, on paper, have the most complete and highest quality squad in the Italian top division.

The 30-year-old Polish international has been playing in Serie A for ten years.

Zielinski can play on either side of a threesome, or in attacking midfield.

The emergence of the former Napoli and Empoli midfielder during the season could well help Inter stave off the threat of their biggest Scudetto challengers.
