Serbia’s Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said today that Faton Hajrizi, who was killed near Loznica, was a “known murderer”. He said that “when someone attacks the state, it is a terrorist act” and that it remains to be determined what Faton’s goals and motives were.

“We ask Germany if he was really in Germany, but they don’t answer. They don’t answer those questions and every day they put pressure on Serbia about what happened in Banjska. Come on, answer the simple questions – was he in Germany and if so, how could he have ended up there. It is also a question for EULEX that they didn’t issue an international Interpol arrest warrant for him if he escaped from prison,” Dacic told TV Pink, commenting on the information that Faton Hajrizi had recently escaped from prison in Kosovo and Metohija.

Dacic pointed out that there were doubts about his identity, as to this day the Serbian authorities do not have documents in his name, but in the name of his brother Artan Hajrizi, a passport from the temporary authorities of Kosovo and a German identity card.

“You know how it is now, you ask EULEX for data and they say – we can’t give it because of the protection of personal data. The German police don’t answer whether this man was really in Hannover or not. If he was in Hannover on July 16 and in Preševo on the afternoon of July 17, let someone explain to us how and why he came to Preševo. If his brother lied that he was on July 16, then he should be prosecuted as an accomplice and arrested,” Dacic said about Artan Hajrizi’s statement in Germany that his brother stole his documents.

According to Dacic, it should be investigated how he ended up in Preševo while he did not cross the administrative border. He states that “the police are conducting a search, but dozens of people are not there at their home addresses. Then it is known that they fled and that they participated in it”.

He pointed out that Faton Hajrizi was a proven multiple murderer who had no intention of surrendering to the Serbian authorities. He immediately shot twice at the policemen in the car, who were participating in the search, but missed them. One of the policemen wounded him when he returned fire, after which he ran away in the direction of the forest.

Dacic stated that he was subsequently liquidated by the Special Anti-Terrorism Unit and that he had fired a total of nine shots at police before being killed.
