Inter Milan legend Beppe Bergomi has praised the club’s current midfielder but feels he lacks a bit of height.

The Nerazzurri have further expanded an already impressive squad with the arrival of Piotr Zielinski.

The 30-year-old Polish international leaves Napoli on a free transfer after eight years to the Italian champions.

With this new signing, Simone Inzaghi now has six competent midfielders competing for three starting places.

Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are the undisputed starters, while Davide Frattesi and Kristjan Asllani will be hoping for more playing time this season.

Bergomi also praises Inter’s midfield.

“Inter have a very strong midfield,” the Nerazzurri icon said in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“Just think of the three who are always seen as starters: Barella, Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan.

“They are practically three number tens who have changed roles and are flourishing in them, which guarantees incredible quality.

“Moreover, the alternatives are just as reliable. Asllani has gained more self-confidence and personality after the European Championship in Germany.

“Frattesi has different qualities because he comes in and breaks away. Finally, Zielinski is perfect to give Mkhitaryan a breather and he knows how to play both phases of the game.”

However, Bergomi notes that Inter’s midfield lacks a physically impressive player.

“Maybe just a few inches are missing, because no one has a dominant physical structure in terms of height.

“I’m sure of it Zielinski will have no problems getting used to it. After all, he played in the three-man midfield at Napoli. He will also play as a mezzala for the Nerazzurri.

“It is difficult to discuss now whether he can be a starter or not. Mkhitaryan is a very serious professional and a competent player.

“So I can’t imagine his performance or stamina will suddenly decline.”
