Bacary Sagna backs Arsenal’s pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori

Mikel Arteta’s potential takeover of Ricardo Calafiori has been praised by former Gunners defender Bacary Sagna.

ARSENAL have been in the news a lot in recent weeks, but despite all the rumours and speculation, David Raya is the only player to have made the switch to the Emirates after completing his permanent move to London.

However, there has been much speculation about the possible arrival of Calafiori from Bologna, a player who has been attracting a lot of attention from all kinds of clubs after his impressive performances for the Italian club last season.

Calafiori made 33 appearances for Bologna last season, helping them qualify for the Champions League. He impressed for the Serie A side and carried that form into Euro 2024, where he performed superbly for Italy in the group stage. He was missed by Luciano Spalletti when he was suspended for the round of 16 defeat to Switzerland.

The potential deal has had its hiccups, but amid all the speculation and rumours, Sagna has praised the Gunners’ pursuit of Calafiori. He told Paddy Power: “Riccardo Calafiori is very good. I’ve followed him a lot in Serie A this season.

“I have watched many Bologna games and he is one of the reasons they were able to qualify for the Champions League.

“He is calm and composed on the ball – he can break lines by committing and helping the side attacking. He would be a fantastic player for Arsenal – he would be a fantastic addition to any club he joined.”

ARSENAL are taking their time to get a deal done for Calafiori as they want to make sure he is the right fit for the club – but he would be a very useful addition to the club.
