Gary O’Neil gets transfer bang as ‘fantastic’ Wolves target now wants to join European giant

Gary O’Neil has suffered a huge setback in his bid to find a ‘fantastic’ replacement for Max Kilman at Wolves.

Wolves have been noticeably busy in the early days of the summer transfer window, with Gary O’Neil fulfilling several wishes.

The Old Gold have signed Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen, but the business is not over yet as O’Neil has found a replacement for Max Kilman.

Wolves sold their captain to West Ham for £40million and now need to find the perfect player to fill the void. The club were initially said to have four replacements for the Englishman on their shortlist, including Nico Elvedi, Jacob Greaves, Thomas Beelen and David Carmo.

Meanwhile, there is also interest in other players. Last weekend it was reported that the Wanderers wanted to sign Red Bull Salzburg defender Strahinja Pavlovic. He is reportedly available for around £25m.

Wolves were not the only Premier League club to admire the Serbian international, who shone at Euro 2024. Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa were also keen.

However, it has now emerged that a European giant has taken the lead in the battle for the 23-year-old, whose talents deserve a big move.

Fabrizio Romano says Wolves target Strahinja Pavlovic wants a move to AC Milan

Although Wolves never showed interest in the defender again, Fabrizio Romano claims Pavlovic wants to move to Italian giants AC Milan.

Romano believes negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing and that the monster defender is ready for a new chapter in Italy.

Pavlovic was part of the Serbian team that conceded just twice at Euro 2024, with the powerful centre-back being praised for keeping Harry Kane calm.

Now it appears Wolves have been unable to sign the ‘fantastic’ player as he nears a move to Milan.

Why Defense Is a Concern for Gary O’Neil

Regardless of whether Kilman leaves Wolverhampton this summer, Wolves needed an additional reinforcement for their defence.

Experienced centre-back Craig Dawson is entering the final year of his contract, so a replacement for the 34-year-old is needed, with the only reliable player in their defence at the moment being Toti Gomes.

Santiago Bueno made just 12 Premier League appearances last season, while Yerson Mosquera has yet to be tested in the top flight, despite showing promising performances on loan at Villarreal and in pre-season.

It seems that Wolves want to use Kilman’s money effectively by signing a replacement for the 27-year-old. There are plenty of players available on the market.

Ideally, they also want to sign someone who is an improvement on their current options and who fits straight into the heart of their defence.
