Spain babbles during first heat wave of the year

Warm air masses from Africa are bringing Spain its first real heat wave of the summer.

For example, temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius were measured in the Andalusian city of Seville, the national weather service AEMET reported on Friday.

The air was also hot and oppressive in other cities in the Guadalquivir River valley in the south and in Zaragoza on the Ebro River in the northeast of the country.

AEMET warns of temperatures of up to 44 degrees, which could be reached in the Zaragoza region on Saturday.

On the holiday island of Mallorca, temperatures were at first sight somewhat more moderate – around 33 degrees. However, the higher humidity made it feel at least as warm as in Andalusia.

A slight cooling is not expected until Sunday, when temperatures will drop below 40 degrees again.
