Bella Hadid to be the face of Adidas’ retro 1972 Olympic sneakers

Sportswear and footwear brand Adidas has come under fire after it decided to make pro-Hamas supermodel Bella Hadid the face of its re-released retro 1972 Olympic sneakers.

In 1972, a Palestinian terrorist group murdered 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the Munich Games.

Bella Hadid is half Palestinian by birth, as her father is Palestinian. Her sister Gigi Hadid has been criticized for supporting Palestinian relief efforts after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.

On Monday (July 15), the German sportswear company announced the relaunch of the classic SL 72 shoe, ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

This also marked the 52nd anniversary of the “Munich massacre,” when members of the Palestinian terror group Black September raided the village and took Israeli athletes and coaches hostage, before eventually killing them.

The official social media account of the State of Israel questioned Adidas over its decision to hire Bella Hadid as a representative for the brand.

“Guess who is the face of the (Adidas’) campaign? Bella Hadid, a half-Palestinian model with a history of spreading anti-Semitism and calling for violence against Israelis and Jews,” said the account, run by Israel’s Foreign Ministry on X, formerly Twitter.

The shoemaker was criticized by the pro-Israel American Jewish Committee for the insensitive ad campaign. “For Adidas to choose a blatantly anti-Israel model to commemorate this dark Olympic Games is either a gross oversight or deliberately inflammatory. Neither is acceptable,” the organization said.

“We call on Adidas to address this blatant error,” the company added.

In honor of her Palestinian heritage, Hadid wore a dress made of keffiyeh fabric to the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in May. The fabric is a plaid traditional Arab headdress that has become a symbol of solidarity among Palestinians. It was reported that Bella and Gigi Hadid also planned to donate $1 million to support Palestinian relief efforts. (Agencies)
