Romina Khurshid praises UK support for Pakistani climate action

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change and Environment Coordination Romina Khurshid Alam has lauded the UK’s support for Pakistan’s climate action as the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Coordination and the United Kingdom government have agreed to enhance cooperation to address climate change and environmental issues in Pakistan. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam and a delegation from the British Embassy led by Development Director Jo Moire met her on Friday, a press release said. She said this cooperation marks a significant step forward in the fight against climate change and both countries are committed to working together to address this global challenge. Khurshid Alam stressed the importance of bridging the civil society, academia and corporate sectors in both countries to address the pressing issues of climate change and environmental degradation.

She stressed the urgent need for concrete measures to limit the impacts of global warming, tackle flood risks proactively and support vulnerable farming communities.

The coordinator noted that changing weather patterns are having a significant impact on agricultural productivity, threatening food security and livelihoods. The country has suffered billions of dollars in economic losses in the past due to climate-related disasters.

The UK delegation presented a report to the Coordinator aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s climate resilience. Both sides agreed to work together to implement sustainable agricultural practices and mitigate future impacts.
