Bernardo Silva calls Bruno Fernandes ‘Penandes’

Fernandes, a penalty specialist who has missed just six of 60 penalties in his career, was expected to score from 12 yards. The 29-year-old calmly slotted the ball past Jan Oblak to give his team a two-goal lead.

On Instagram, Silva posted a photo with Fernandes, with the following caption via City Xtra:

“With my friend and penalty professor Bruno Penandes.”

Since joining the Premier League in 2020, Fernandes has been nicknamed ‘Penandes’ by fans, who believe his goalscoring exploits are largely dependent on penalties.

In his first season at Old Trafford he scored eight penalties in 22 games.

Fernandes responded to Silva’s message with a playful reply:

“You’re welcome, Benandes.”

Fernandes praises Ronaldo

Meanwhile, Fernandes stressed Ronaldo’s importance to the Portugal team at Euro 2024 after they recorded their first league win against the Czech Republic.

The Manchester United midfielder has indicated that the 39-year-old forward’s experience outweighs the need for him to score goals as the team chase another major title.

It is unclear what the future holds for Ronaldo and the Portugal national team after Euro 2024, but the Al-Nassr star has previously indicated that he wants to continue playing until the 2026 World Cup.

Bruno Fernandes dragged out of interview

In other news, Sports letter also reported that Ten Hag cut short the interview with Bruno shortly after Manchester United’s win over Newcastle.

The Portuguese midfielder returned from injury during the Premier League match on Wednesday evening, May 15.
