Euro 2024: Poland v Austria

Match example

Poland and Austria will both hope to record their first points of Euro 2024 when they play each other in Berlin tomorrow.

The Poles were unlucky to go to the Netherlands in their Group D opener, with Wout Weghorst coming off the bench to score a late winner for Ronald Koeman’s men. They will be boosted by the return of star striker Robert Lewandowski, who missed Sunday’s match due to a thigh injury.

Austria was equally unlucky when they returned empty-handed from the match against France. Ralf Rangnick’s men were impressive but were undone by a Maximilian Wober own goal in the first half in a 1-0 defeat.

Rangnick said: “We know the situation: we have to beat Poland if we want to make progress. I can’t blame my team at all, we invested what we could and more was not possible. The boys are disappointed that it wasn’t enough for a point, but now our focus is on the future and we want to win on Friday.”
