Modern Greek Studies Association of AUS & NZ holds 15th conference – The Greek Herald

The Modern Greek Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand (MGSAANZ), together with the Department of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Sydney, will hold their 15th biennial conference this year from December 6 to 7.

The conference, entitled ‘Where to after the crisis? Discussing Modern Greek Studies in the Age of Uncertainty,’ will be held at the University of Sydney (USYD).

The conference will be convened by Professor Vrasidas Karalis, Sir Nicholas Laurantus Professor of Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies at USYD; and Associate Professor Anthony Dracopoulos, Chair of the Discipline of Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies, School of Languages ​​and Cultures at USYD.

Nearly six years after the last conference, the MGSAANZ invites all Australian academics, researchers, writers and cultural actors to their upcoming meeting dedicated to diagnosing what has happened to the Greek language in Australia over the past six years.

What is the future of modern Greek in Australia.

The conference will look at the future of modern Greek studies in Australia, modern Greek language education, the orientations of current academic research, publishing relevant literature and the emergence of new creative writing, along with other articles on politics , culture, art and society.

The conference aims to expand its scope and perspective to include a wide variety of research and cultural reconsiderations taking place in the Greek-Australian diaspora, as well as in global Greek studies, including visual arts, literary writing, music and cultural performance.

In addition, the conference will devote a substantial portion of its discussions to presenting books published in both Greek and English by Australian-based writers, while highlighting the work and legacy of recently deceased seminal literary figures, such as Dimitris Tsaloumas and Antigone Kefala, are honored.

The MGSAANZ remain open to suggestions on possible panel discussions and individual contributions.
