El Celler de Can Roca opens a TimeSpirit restaurant in Scotland

It may be cheaper to fly to Girona to try the original than to take the train to Scotland – but the news that world-class restaurant El Celler de Can Roca is opening a restaurant north of the border is still very interesting.

The restaurant has just announced it is opening a dining experience at The Macallan Estate in Speyside. TimeSpirit will be their first restaurant outside Spain and will serve a nine-course tasting menu celebrating Scotch whisky.

If, like us, you’ve never been to the original restaurant, the takeaway is that not only does it have three Michelin stars, but it topped the World’s 50 Best list twice (and in four other years came in second). The Scottish restaurant will also get a World’s 50 Best connection – it will be designed by David Thulstrup, who is also behind Noma in Copenhagen.

There isn’t much information about what might be on the menu, but a spokesperson for the Roca brothers said: “The many trips we have made to Scotland and the inspiration we have found in the old cookbooks have given us the opportunity to pay tribute to Scottish cuisine has been all over the country, we’ve enjoyed it, spent time on it and we’d now like to share our cooking through The Macallan.”

This will be extremely popular – you can expect that getting a booking here will be a similar ordeal to trying to get one at their Girona branch.
